An ultrasonic welding system typi- cally consists of four components: power supply, PZT converter, booster and horn. Among them, PZT converter converts electrical power into mechanical power. To improve the power deliv- ery, the input electrical impedance of converter should be reduced. In the present study, influ- ences of piezoelectric ring thickness and thick- ness of matching and backing layers on the bandwidth of a converter were investigated. The results showed that the input electrical imped- ance can be reduced by 1) employing more ac- tive piezoelectric layers and 2) increasing the number of piezoelectric rings.
Furthermore, wid- ening the bandwidth of piezoelectric converter at its resonant frequency is also desired because of the possible variance of mechanical imped- ance of workpieces. In summary, new design methodology for converter in ultrasonic welding systems have been proposed and developed based on minimizing input impedance through the concept of transduction matrix.
Ultrasonic Converters and Ultrasonic Transducers are one in the same. There is one Ultrasonic OEM, Dukane Corporation, that uses the term Transducer. All of the other ultrasonic OEM manufactures such as Branson, Sonics and Materials, Rinco, Telesonics and Herrmann refer to these as Converters or Konverters.
To convert electrical ultrasonic energy of the generator to mechanical oscillation, ultrasonic converters are needed. Our ultrasonic converters are produced inhouse, on high-quality, fully automatic CNC lathes. The ultrasonic converters consist of mechanical components and polarized ceramic discs. Created from high-quality metal alloys, eg stainless steels or titanium. For our titanium alloys, we can prove the suitability for aviation and space technology with certificates and test reports. We offer ultrasonic converters from 20 to 90 kHz, usable for a wide range of applications, for example:

Description:
The transducer converts high-frequency electrical energy into high-frequency mechanical vibrations. And it contains several piezoelectric ceramic discs sandwiched under pressure between two metal blocks. Between each disc is a thin metal plate, which forms the electrode. When a sinusoidal electrical signal is fed to the transducer via the electrodes, the discs expand and contract, producing axial vibrations.
